Propane Tank Rules
The liquid petroleum or LP system style gas container is an OSHA term which refers to the regulators, piping, hoses, regulators, fittings and valves. The agency needs specific parts depending upon the tank's capacity. These individual components should undergo standard laboratory testing. The correct laboratory approval proves that the system parts meet pressure, thickness and construction standards.
Tank Location
The organization OSHA determines how near the propane tank can be mounted in relation to buildings, to ignitable materials, to tanks containing flammable liquids, cutting torches and welders. These strict regulations are implemented to make the jobsite as safe as possible for the employees and those others who are in the vicinity.
Nameplate Marks
Liquefied Propane systems need to be marked with the name and the address of the supplier of the container, or tank trade name. The capacity of the container is listed in gallons or pounds, square foot outside surface, fill level, and pressure. In addition, information about whether or not the container is made for installation underground or above ground is also visible. These markings need to be on a metal plate connected to the container somewhere in plain sight. OSHA requires that each and every tank has to be marked by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors in order to be considered ready and safe to use.
Tank Modifications and Repairs
Any type of repairs to LP systems which require welding are regulated by OSHA. Repair workers and tank owners need to be familiar with regulatory codes and standards that the tanks were made. Welding repairs to any system component that is subject to internal pressure should first comply with these fabrication codes. Other welding is only allowed on lugs, brackets or saddle plates.
OSHA has worked hard to make sure that individuals working with lift trucks and those working nearby lift trucks are kept as safe as possible. They have strict rules and training procedures in place so as to make sure that these industrial machinery and their repair processes are handled with respect and as safe as possible. It is really vital that companies follow their rules and steep fines could happen if they are not adhered to.
