There are two standard types of lift trucks, units that run on gas and models that run on electricity:
IC or Internal Combustion Forklifts: The Internal Combustion lift truck will run on fuels like liquid propane, gas, diesel or compressed natural gas or CNG. Gas powered units are great for outdoor use because they produce gases and pollutants which are harmful to workers and pedestrians. Units that run on gasoline are also great to be used in bad weather and in the rain. These units could carry weights around 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Due to the maintenance and fuel expenses, the gas powered units are more costly to use compared to models that run on electricity, however, they cost less up front than the electric units. Units which run on liquid propane are the right choice for safe use indoors.
Electric Lift Trucks: The electric forklift models are powered by really huge batteries which should be recharged. The machines do not produce any polluting air emissions as these units do not burn any fuel. They are the best option for indoor use and warehouses. Additionally, forklifts that run on electricity are a lot quieter to run than other units and they do not need any fuel storage units. Amongst the disadvantages of electric powered units is that they are unable to carry loads over 15,000 pounds and therefore, have a slower acceleration compared to gasoline powered units.
The lift truck is specially designed to move goods and materials easily and quickly. Accidents do happen often as is the case with nearly all kinds of machinery. There are some safety regulations that have to be followed to be able to keep everybody safe. The most important problem is recruiting a trained operator, who could show you a valid forklift license.
On the market nowadays, there are many different styles of forklifts available. Deciding which one is right for your specific needs would be based on the types of loads which you have to transport, what type of environment your machinery would have to operate in, like for instance, indoors or outdoors or both. When you understand your particular needs, it will be easy to match up to the right kind of lift truck. When you understand all your needs exactly you can make the best decision.
Renting is another great way to try out different units if you want to try out different features and see what type of options are available. This is a less expensive way to know if the kind of equipment you have selected could keep up with you on the job location.
