Reach Truck
To be able to keep storage areas orderly and to store pallets of goods and supplies, a reach truck can be used. The reach truck is available in quite a few models: the double-deep reach, straddle reach and the stand-up reach.
The simplest kind is the stand-up. The truck forks slide under the pallet and move it to the correct storage location. The forks slide the pallet into place. This particular type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are only one pallet in depth.
Best for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, which is similar to the stand-up, is frequently used. This version has telescopic forks designed to position the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This eliminates the need to push the pallet back when one more pallet must go into the same shelving section.
The additional advantage of straddle reaches is that they can both slide beneath the pallet and grasp the sides as well. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in many directions. This particular version is ideal in conditions where goods would not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
In nearly all warehouses, there are usually more than one type of reach truck. Textile firms and manufacturing facilities use various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not hard to use and could make the most of available storage space while increasing production.
